In the beginning of it all, the planet Terra existed as a beautiful, round, blue orb among the cosmos. There have always been Monsters and Men; yet there was always a balance between the two. Both lived in peace, only attacking if one provoked the other.
People and creatures alike carried on with their daily lives. But then, many years ago, a meteor came crashing into the land. As its surface cracked, it released a deadly, violet fog that has been since called Miasma. The Miasma spread slowly at first, devastating the plants and wildlife in the meteor's vicinity. Creatures that miraculously survived were turned into dangerous, terrifying beasts, tainted by the fog. Those affected caused chaos throughout the world. A shift in the aether surrounding the tainted earth caused certain creatures to grow to massive sizes. The disrupted aether created creatures that are now called Eidolons, physical manifestations of certain elemental aether that grew too chaotic to control. These creatures ravaged the lands far and wide, causing destruction in their wake, and making other miasma-infested attacks pale in comparison.
It was then that the fabled High Summoners stepped forth and used their magic to defeat the Eidolons. But rather than send their chaotic energy back to the Life Stream, these summoners chose to form a pact with the beasts, and use them to keep harmony for a time. It was called the Calm, the period of time after an Eidolon's heart was soothed and the earth remained silent. The places where the Eidolons and aether fluctuated seemed to be purified of the taint, at least for a time.
Despite these short periods of calm, the Miasma was too much to hold back and could not be contained. Being the meteor's crash site, the great Kingdom of Amostra fell as the aether grew too destructive. Whatever secrets of the Kingdom held were lost to the ravaging miasma and its mutated creatures… The Amostran Royal Family and refugees alike fled to Divinity’s Reach, a previously abandoned fort, to seek asylum. But as the Kingdom grows, and rebuilds, what plans lie ahead in the future? Are the buried secrets important enough to brave the deadly Miasma?
